Lagos state unveils health insurance plan for citizens

The much talked about Lagos state Health Insurance Scheme will be officially rolled out next year according to the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode. Speaking at the commissioning of the new WAPIC Insurance Corporate Head Office in Lagos, the governor said insurance is strategically important to any economy.

“We know very clearly that early next year, we are going to start our Health Insurance Scheme and I just think that the drivers are the majority of the people who are seated here and it is important that we partner together and also learn together,” Ambode said.

Lagos state is not the only Nigerian state introducing health insurance schemes, HealthNewsNG has extensively reported that several other Nigerian states have enacted laws that make it possible for the state government to introduce health insurance services for the citizens.
