WHO set to elect new Director-General with five candidates shortlisted

The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to elect a new Director-General to replace Dr. Margaret Chan.

According to the WHO website, the next step in the process was taken yesterday with the initial screening of the 6 candidates nominated by Member States. The screening was conducted by the Executive Board. This was was followed by a vote to determine a short list of the following 5 candidates.:

Today (January 25), members of the Executive Board will conduct interviews, and shorten the list to 3 nominees, by vote. Their names will be announced by the Executive Board Chair, Dr Ray Busuttil in the evening. All Member States will choose among the three nominees by voting at the World Health Assembly in May 2017. The new Director-General will take office on 1 July 2017

    Thanks for the giant stride ahead to elect who would pioneer the affairs of the world in a specified tenure. May God be with all the contestants to enable a good conduct of the election. Someone who would carry the whole world on his shoulder.
