Nigeria to Begin Screening Airline Passengers for Lassa Fever, Zika virus as Minister insists Death toll is still at 47
Nigeria’s Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole has disputed reports that claim that over 80 persons have died from Lassa fever in Nigeria. He insists that the nationwide Lassa fever death toll till date is 47.

This was stated during the brief of the 2015 budget performance at the National Assembly. Prof. Adewole further stated that he has instructed that all passengers entering Nigeria via airports be screened for Lassa fever and Zika virus.

According to a report on Vanguard, Chike Okafor, Chairman, House Committee on Health services stated that any health project that is not beneficial to the Nigerian people should be dropped, and projects related to recent epidemics should be carried out.
