Nigeria is removing favoritism from housemanship by centralizing placements

The federal ministry of health has revealed plans to centralize the mandatory one-year housemanship for new doctors. It revealed that the placement would now be done online from2018.

What is going to happen is that potential house officers will seek random slots through online application for posting to any hospital nationwide.According to the health ministry, centralizing housemanship placement will get rid of favoritism.

With 4,000 young doctors and 4,300 slots, there’s enough placement but desire to serve in favourite hospitals means many doctors will not get placement.

Daily Trust reported that a committee setting up the online centralised placement for house officers would start work next week.

Since this is a developing story, HealthNewsNG will be following the development closely
