The heavy rainfall of Saturday November 18 in the city of Benin has left the temporary accommodation meant for preclinical medical students of the University of Benin heavily flooded.
A significant proportion of the roofing and ceilings of the hostel popularly referred to as Hall 5 were blown off during stormy rainfall.
At the sight of the destruction, occupants of the hostel abruptly squeezed through each other to rescue few pertinent gadgets and disconnected electric appliances.
Some affected students on ground queried the poor maintenance character of the school’s management and shouted their demands. They warned that if urgent necessary qualitative measures are not taken and committee set up in due time, they warned that a mass protest will take place to protest against the university management’s handling of the affairs of the accomodation.
They called on the federal government to implement strict sanctions.
A 300 level Dentistry Student and occupant of the hostel, Efosa Ekhoe-Omoragbon told HealthNewsNG this wasn’t the first time such willbe happening, though previous ones were not very serious.
